Nikos Andronicos

HOST

 

Australian-born Greek Nikos Andronicos is a filmmaker, actor, musician, and the host of Greeks of the Sea, a series he's dreamed about making since he first tasted his Yiayia's famous fried whitebait in the mid-1980s. Nikos, whose film Ad Nauseam recently won Best Foreign Feature at the LOS ANGELES INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL , studied film, law and philosophy at university but spent most of his time putting on plays, and got his break as senior writer for NETWORK TEN's cult sketch comedy series The Ronnie Johns Half-Hour.

 

Since then, Nikos has done a lot of things, apart from sleep. These include writing and performing in the animation series Psychotown for MTV USA, Billy and the Bitch for MONDO MEDIA and CJ The DJ for ABC TV; singing and playing guitar for Sydney electro-rock band Pomomofo; being the station voice for THE DISNEY CHANNEL AUSTRALIA; hosting breakfast radio on 2SER-FM; interviewing famous bands as staff writer for THE BRAG magazine; and most recently writing and co-presenting The Kings of Commentary, a documentary about the first ever rugby league international between Vanuatu and Greece. (Greece won, 24-16).

 

While filming Greeks of the Sea, Nikos loved meeting the characters of the Aegean and following in the wake of his great-grandfather, a fisherman who hailed from the Peloponnesian island of Kythera. Nikos is currently based in London where he is working on a number of new television and film projects.

Phil Kiely

CO-EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

 

Greeks of the Sea is a project Phil has been working on during his regular trips to Greece since he first travelled and worked there as a university graduate in 1976. During his early years working in Greece, Phil developed the highly successful Flotilla sailing concept with the YACHT CRUISING ASSOCIATION.

 

Prior to making Greeks of the Sea, Phil spent more than 25 years in the Information Technology sector. During that time, Phil spent seven years at the world's largest database company, ORACLE CORPORATION, where as Regional Managing Director (Australasia) he was responsible for revenues of over $240 million, 3000 customers and over 1200 staff across Australia and New Zealand.

 

Most recently Phil has established investment company MATRIX CAPITAL CORPORATION which develops and commercialises innovative product and services organisations.

 

Phil is also a Founding Director of THE KARUNA FOUNDATION, a not-for-profit organisation working for vulnerable children in Asia. 

Tim Seller

CAMERA

 

Tim spent much of his youth honing his passion for photography by the Australian coastline, making him a perfect fit as a memeber of the Greeks of the Sea production team!

 

After graduating from the University of Technology, Sydney with a Bachelor in Media Arts and Production in 2009, Tim quickly moved onto employment with international TV company, MTV. After three years working as a Producer across a variety of local and international productions, Tim left MTV in mid-2012, to work as a producer, camera man, editor and musician on a wider variety of new projects which saw him travel the world.

 

Currently, Tim is working on music videos, television commercials and an online web series.

 

Peter Pentz

CO-EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

 

Greeks of the Sea is the brainchild of businessman and keen sailor Peter Pentz. The South-African born Sydney resident has spent the past seven summers sailing the Greek waters, where he fell in love with the local people and was amazed by their maritime skill and ingenuity.

 

Most of Peter's working life was spent in the Commerical Banking sector, where he was South African Vice President of AMERICAN EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL. Peter also opened a chain of seven successful restaurants in South Africa, as well as owning a theatre production company and travel agency. After moving to Australia in 1996, Peter founded an investment real estate company.

 

Aside from Greeks of the Sea, Peter is currently also writing a book on Apartheid in South Africa.

Joe Kiely

DOP/EDITOR/COMPOSER

 

Joe has a passion for all areas of production: camera work, editing, graphic design, soundtrack and composition. Upon graduating with a degree in Media Arts & Production from the University of Technology Sydney in 2009, Joe began composing and orchestrating scores for short & feature films, pilot television shows and corporate videos around Sydney. At the same time, Joe wrote, composed and co-directed his first musical, The Wharf, which would lead him to the bright lights of New York City in 2010.

The following two years sent Joe and his original dark comedy Crab House onto an off-Broadway stage. Joe also maintained his love for cinematography by freelancing on various productions at VIDEASA, a content house in downtown TriBeCa. 

 

Following his stint in New York, Joe's musical went on to previews in London and a full month-long run at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2011. 

Returning to Sydney in 2012, Joe commenced editing at SKY NEWS, graphic design work at CHANNEL SEVEN & production work STEM MEDIA.

 

Joe divides his time working on Greeks of the Sea with his dual role of Editor/Director of Photography at Australian advertising firm BMF.

Tom Nicol

DIRECTOR/WRITER

 

Writer and journalist Tom Nicol has travelled to Greece every European summer over the past four years, experiencing first-hand the generosity of the Greek people and the beauty of the islands.

 

Prior to joining the Greeks of the Sea team, Tom worked for five years at Australia’s leading 24-hour news channel SKY NEWS, as Executive Producer and feature-story reporter. During his time at SKY, Tom was responsible for overseeing coverage of news events as diverse as the Japanese Tsunami, the Gillard-Rudd leadership spill of 2012, two Christchurch earthquakes, and the Libyan revolution and eventual death of Muammar Gaddafi. Tom was also the creator and inaugural Executive Producer of the channel’s leading LIVE lunchtime news and public affairs program, NewsDay.

 

Tom has also spent time working in the CHANNEL NINE Sydney newsroom, after winning the Network’s Richard Carleton Memorial Scholarship while studying a degree in Communications at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst. Tom has also had experience in the radio and print media, including presenting and producing stints at Bathurst’s leading commercial radio station 2BS GOLD and reporting for THE SUN-HERALD. Most recently Tom has worked for NETWORK TEN as a senior producer.

 

Tom is an avid traveller, news junkie and history buff, and enjoys nothing better than sitting back with a cold beer and listening to the stories of the locals in the places he visits.

Vasili Pasioudis

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

 

Greek-Australian filmmaker and entrepreneur Vasili Pasioudis has a passion for all things maratime related, after a career spent working aboard some of the world's largest passengers vessels as Photo Manager for NORWEGIAN and ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE LINES.

In addition to his involvement with the Greeks of the Sea team, Vasili operates his own production company AEGEAN FILMS, and also heads an enterprise software start-up business.
